On a warm but blustery day the Folke Hardy B side gathered for this home fixture in a confident mood hoping to build on the last match victory of 4-1.With a few selection and pairing changes the Captain was hoping for some success but seeing only one player(George Taylor) on the practice green he was a little concerned that his team were being over confident however.........
First up was the afore mentioned George Taylor and Mark Stockford. This pairing was to prove disastrous with them being 6 down after only nine holes. Any hopes they had of a bigger come back than Atomic Kitten were dashed when Stockford was seen to be two fairways away from his target going up 11, - his cry of “I'm not playing to bad Captain” fell on deaf ears! They quickly fell to a season worst 8&7 defeat. (Who needs to practice?)
Next up was the methodical Tony Smith & the combative Ian Tinsley. The pair quickly found themselves two holes down after a self confessed dreadful start before ensuing to haul their partners in for an eventual and well fought 3&2 victory. Tony was however spotted Shanking - yes - his way around the course so credit must go to Ian for holding the pair together.
Third on the Tee was the clubs’ in-form player and Captain Martin Blatchford paired up with the diminutive Mervin Jennings. Seeing both their opponents hit out of bounds on the first hole raised their hopes.... they were to be dashed four shots later when they could only scramble a half! A battle royal then ensued in what was a very tight but enjoyable game. The home pairing managed to secure a fine 2&1 victory. (Merv says I must mention his fine birdie on the tough 15th hole).
Fourth up was the inconsistent Liam Newton and the troublesome Kevin Down. A few wayward shots were played by the pairing especially when the Captain was on hand to watch however in a see saw match they managed to secure a fine 2&1 victory.
Last but by no means least was Terry Kadshaw paired with the busy Kevin(Lilly) Allen.Kev was struggling to find his feet in this game having been dumped out of the Summer Knock out two days previous. His confidence was even lower after losing balls over the first three holes. It was left to the steady Kadshaw to hold them together over the front 9 holes however roles were reversed over the back nine when the four putting Kadshaw was carried home by the ever improving Kevin leading to a nervy but fine 1 up victory.
Thanks again must go to the boys for a hard fought 4-1 victory against a very good Queens Park outfit.
The Captain was left to thank all participants on the day and also to Andy, Steve, Lisa and Chas for their efforts on the course and around the clubhouse.
